#24 Still Close to My Heart
Even though it feels like summer outside, it’s back-to-school and I’m focused on fall.
And that means football.
I love football. Ever since I put #24 on my back at Lake Braddock High School and ran onto the field, I’ve been addicted.
I can tell you almost every detail of every high school game I played.
My wife and technicians might be able to tell you as well.
I’ve been known to focus on the glory days of high school football. . . and it certainly doesn't help that I treat my teammates' and cheerleaders' kids.
Now though, I’m consumed by the stories I hear from my patients.
I love to hear about every throw, every catch, every tackle. Today, especially in this area, athletes are so highly skilled due to the training and programs schools offer.
My interests have widened, now, to other fall sports.
I’m amazed by the times the cross country runners post, the new techniques and plays the soccer players use and the outrageous fun the students have with powder puff football. Not to mention the proliferation of field hockey (as well as ice hockey) and everything else going on. If it involves a team, I want to hear all about it.
All I need to remind my patients is to remember to wear your mouth guards. It’s really important you protect your teeth when playing any kind of sport, even if you’re just goofing around or warming up.
Be safe, and no worries about filling us in while we’re poking around in your mouth. The OBC staff specializes in understanding garbled words.
Me, I live for it.
