Treatment Guidelines
Although orthodontic treatment varies greatly on a case-by-case basis, the American Association of Orthodontics recommend children visit an orthodontist by age 7, and earlier if a problem is detected by a medical professional or dentist. Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, which is why so many adults now seek treatment.
Don’t be surprised if, after bringing your child in for an initial (complimentary) consultation, s/he is “put under supervision.” This simply means that facial width, airway issues, genetic factors and growth patterns are not yet ideal.
Ask Dr. Crutchfield about this and he’ll tell you he puts patients under supervision for years, with no charge, of course, before treatment is recommended. “No need to spend time or money before orthodontic treatment is appropriate,” he’ll tell you.
